How to Find Your Style

How to Find Your Style

Mar 04, 2025Taylor Hussey

Welcome to the Varia blog thanks for being here! My name is Taylor, and I created Varia Active LLC in 2020 with the aim of turning my obsession with outerwear, the outdoors, gear, style, and personal expression into a career.

A persons individual style and choice in clothing has always been a fascination of mine. It’s such a pure form of expression, and one of the first things people will notice about us. It can also convey many subtle details about someone’s personality, since every item we wear is a deliberate choice…unless you’re a child (RIP overalls).

“It’s not even that deep, bro! You’re over thinking it”…I’ve really heard it all. But I respectfully disagree. Even someone who presents themselves with a “couldn’t care less attitude” is making a statement. A rebellious move. One of my best friends throws on random t shirts he gets for free, wears minimalist utilitarian pants or sweats, and a random sport hat for his favorite baseball team.

But he also owns it, and it’s consistent with who he is. He is not a superficial person, and he prioritizes simplicity in many areas of his life. He could literally create the style “SteveCore” and it would be completely original and authentic…and I just love that!

So if I could end my first post on the blog with a nugget of value, I would say this…many people are searching for a style to emulate. There’s a meme where you post old cringe pictures of yourself when you didn’t know what to wear, but you made an earnest attempt at fashion and fell flat on your face. You should have seen my drip in high school, the Seattle city boy trend at the time was doubled up Nike crew socks (logos perfect lined up cuz duh) with adidas slide sandals and some 10” inseam cargo shorts your dad would wear. Black North Face windbreaker on top. I know I know, get in line ladies
😂

And it took many years of trying to emulate others before I realized that the coolest style was the one that was authentic to me. That made me feel good, and let me express who I was without saying a word. A lot of trends come and go, but each person is a timeless classic in their own way. Especially when they embrace who they are, instead of copying someone else. In fact, the greatest gift you can give to the world, is to be yourself. I think Carl Jung said that.

So get out there and fall flat on your face a few times until you find your drip. And then pioneer your own “Steve Core” and know that you’re a fashion icon in your own perfectly unique way.

Much love,
Taylor
